Privacy Policy

Introduction
This Privacy Policy describes how #5000words ("we", "our", or "us") collects, uses, and handles your information when you use our vocabulary learning application (the "App"). We are committed to protecting your privacy and ensuring you understand how your data is handled.
Information we collect
Local data storage
The App stores the following information locally on your device:
- Learning progress and statistics
- App preferences and settings
- User preferences for language learning
While this data is primarily stored on your device for the App's functionality, some anonymous usage data such as learning progress and feature usage is also collected through Firebase Analytics to help us improve the App experience. This analytics data is anonymized and cannot be tied to individual users. For more details about analytics data collection, see the "Analytics and diagnostics" section below.
Audio recording
The App requires microphone access to record your voice during pronunciation exercises and tests. Audio recordings are:
- Processed entirely on your device
- Used only for speech-to-text conversion
- Immediately deleted after processing
- Never transmitted to external servers
- Only recorded during lessons or tests
Analytics and diagnostics
We use Firebase Analytics and Crashlytics (without Advertising ID support) to collect anonymous usage data and crash reports. This helps us:
- Understand how the App is used
- Identify and fix technical issues
- Improve App stability and performance
The data collected includes basic device information (model, OS version), App performance metrics, feature usage patterns, and crash reports. This data is anonymized and does not contain personally identifiable information.
How we use your information
We use your information solely to:
- Provide language learning functionality
- Save your progress
- Improve App performance through standard iOS analytics
Data storage and retention
Local data
App data is primarily stored locally on your device and is retained indefinitely until you either delete the App or use the in-app "Reset Progress" feature.
Analytics data
Anonymous analytics data — usage statistics and crash reports — is stored on Firebase servers and helps us improve the App and fix technical issues. It is automatically deleted according to Firebase's data retention policies.
Your rights and controls
You have control over your data through:
- The ability to reset progress for any language within the App
- Device-level privacy controls for microphone access
- The option to delete all data by uninstalling the App
App permissions
The App requires microphone access for vocabulary exercises and tests. You will be prompted to grant this permission when needed, you can modify it at any time in your device's Settings, and the App clearly indicates when audio recording is active.
Third-party services
The App uses Firebase Analytics and Crashlytics for performance monitoring and crash reporting. Data collected: anonymous usage statistics and crash logs. See the Google Firebase Privacy Policy.
Data security
We implement appropriate security measures by processing all voice data locally on your device (your audio data is never transmitted to external servers), using Apple's secure frameworks and Google Firebase's secure infrastructure for analytics, implementing industry-standard security practices, and never collecting or transmitting personal information.
International users
The App is available worldwide and follows the same privacy practices in all regions.
Changes to this Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on our website and updating the "Last updated" date at the top of this policy.
